Okay I keep seeing where people are the second shooter. Well what exactly does that mean? Are you contacted by the other and your shooting for them? Do they have the Copyrights to your photos? If they sell them do you get any credit? Or does it mean the wedding hired a photographer and then hired you as another? I'm not to fond of shooting weddings as I got bridezilla on the first wedding I tried to shoot. It was not fun at all and I just don't know if I will bother again. However it may be fun to be #2.

The main shooter gets the "must have" shots such as the kiss, ring on finger, bride coming down the isle, formal portraits of B&G and family. The second shooter does the less formal shots. Also assists the main guy with anything they need. At least that's my interpretation of it.

I remember seeing a thread about the second shooter does or could do. I can't find it anymore. It was about 2 years ago that I saw it on the forum.

I was a second shooter, the main photog kept the photos and the rights to them including any sells that came form the couple. I was there to get the shots of the groom getting ready and then was told just to relax and try get some nice shots of whatever was going on - guests, etc...I do get the right to post the photos on my blog and use them for my portfolio.

Do you get paid by the shots used, a flat fee, hourly, or just experiance?

Do you get paid by the shots used, a flat fee, hourly, or just experiance? That really depends on what you and the photographer you are working with/for agree to. It varies.

Glad you question was answered. I am sure there are many interpretations of 2nd shooter. I wonder what percentage of professionals today began as 2nds?
