I'm gonna make a purchase on a new lens and was wondering which lens would be better for me. I have shot all of my weddings so far with two lenses, the 24-105 and 70-200 2.8.. I was thinking about repurchasing a 24-70. My other choice would be the 16-35 2.8 because i'm getting it at a good price. I own a 5d mark ii, which one would you choose for wedding work?

Based on your listing of lenses, I'd go with a 50mm f/1.4, for either the: it's really dark and I'm not allowed to use flash moments or the very artsy shallow DOF shots.

Fast prime. 35 F1.4 is great. 50 F1.4 has never impresssed me, I owned it for years and sold it for a Sigma 30 F1.4 which I love, but won't work on full frame.

24-70 F2.8L doesn't have a good reputation for focus accuracy, plus you lose the IS on the 24-105. Just increase your iso a stop, the only thing you lose is AF speed. The 16-35 F2.8 is a nice lens, and if you need a wider lens go for it.

I PERSONALLY couldn't imagine shooting at f/4 - especially if it isn't on the 70-200... I already can't stand 2.8 at the 24-70 range - so f/4 is not an option for me. But that's totally a personal preference. Tim and Lloyd are great examples of experienced photographers who use (and love, I believe?) the 24-105.

Either way, I would say a definite NO to having both of those lenses. You really only need one.

And I agree with the 50mm prime. But if you're going to spend the cash on a 24-70, then try out a used 50L. Best lens I own :)

I don't use the 24-105, I use the 17-55.

The only thing that has deterred me from getting the 50 is that besides from the low aperture which is great is that I can use the 24. I wont get the Dof but I can fake it. But 16 I cant fake.

But 16 I cant fake.

Sure you can. Shop at the gap, shave three times a day, wear jeans three sizes too big for you, and lose some weight. 16 might be stretching it, but twenties should be possible.

Or did you mean 16mm? :p

Kids don't wear gap these days. It's abercrombie and fitch :)

is might sound a little crazy considering the league of the lenses you are looking at, but I love the Tamron 17-50 2.8 on my crop bodies at weddings. That's just me though.
