I just brought a backdrop stand with 2 backdrops of seamless paper..White and black. I'll be using it inside in the lounge..or mostly in the shed. How do you go about keeping it clean? The shed just has concrete ground.

Youm keep it clean by cutting off the dirty parts.

You can place plexiglass over the white to keep scuffs off to make it last longer. You do get reflection from it though, some people like that however.

White seamless will always get dirty, have punctures, rips, etc. If you're bringing it out onto the floor then roll it back up after it's used or you can throw a sheet of plastic or a drop cloth on it but no matter what you do it will get dirty and you'll have to cut it back every so often to expose fresh paper.

If you're rolling it out on to concrete it's going to get that 'pebbled' look and tear very easily so you might consider putting some plywood down in between the concrete floor and the paper.

Make sure to sweep the hell out of that floor. Any grit/dirt/dust will show through as a shadow filled texture on the ground and really detract from that nice smooth transition from floor to ceiling.

Shoes worn outside of the studio should be cleaned, or even have the soles covered with gaffers tape.

I, as a photographer, just take my shoes off whenever I have to stand on the seamless for metering or adjustments. I usually have a doormat on the side of the seamless for the model to wipe her feet before stepping on the seamless

That said, your best tool to keep it clean is a razor to chop off the dirty stuff.

If you want something more permanent, you can build a cyc wall....but then you're just repainting the whole thing every couple of uses.

Hey Jeff,

Have you ever tried the Savage white vinyl? I've been curious about that for a long time but never ordered it and haven't had the opportunity to see or use it. It's supposedly very easy to clean and will withstand the punctures from things like stiletto heels.

There are epoxy sealer products available for concrete floors that make them much more cleanable.

I'm not sure of the brand, but I've shot on white vinyl a bunch. It still gets dirty and needs to be cut off, but you can easily wet-mop it to get those annoying shoe marks off.
