These critters are all over the NY area where I live. I have been trying to get a good shot of one for the last several weeks. This one comes close, but I am still not happy with it. I believe my problem is camera shake as I was holding the camera without a tripod or monopod. I was using the 100-400mm lens with the ISO set at 400 despite the fact that it was a sunny day. I thought that the higher ISO setting would minimize the stability issues via increasing the shutter speed. I still did not get the detail that I was looking for. Any advice would be welcomed.

Regards,

Bob

Easiest way to capture pic's of these guys is to find the nearest area with cat-tails growing. This is their preferred perch, and often you will see territorial behavior this time of the year, as males chase males...

As for the detail, what distance was this taken at?
Have you done any PS unsharpening?

The distance was aprox 20-25 feet. I did use the PS sharpen tools.
