I don't know what MS silverlight is and won't install it just to view your galleries.
IMHO you may want to rethink having visitors to your site having to install silverlight

+1 on the MS Silverlight,
Also when opening galleries, I really dislike them opening in new windows, sorry just a pet-peeve of mine.
Apart from that its simple, neat and too the point.

Wow!
I have silverlight installed, so it wasn't a problem for me.. But if i went to look at someones gallery and was asked to instal software, i would leave.. ;)
Can't help you with meta tags i'm afraid, i'm less web design literate than you!! :D

As far as silverlight, its no different than having to install quicktime to view videos etc. I find that some can see my slides just fine with out it and some it requires a small download. For those that do not wish to install a safe and quick download from a trusted author, not much I can do about it. I personally love silverlight :)

What do you mean opening in a new window? It doesnt do that when I view it or at least I didnt think it did?

If you want to be found in Google or any other search engines, then, yes you need to worry about having great meta tags.
An example:
<title>Your city Your State - Your specialties - Your name (70-100 characters long)</title>
<meta name="description" content="A short description about what you do, location etc in about 150 characters." />
<meta name="keywords" content=" about 10 good keywords here " />
I good read:

BTW, I didn't have any issues viewing your site using Firefox 3.

That's interesting, as i'm running Firefox 3 too... Have you got the Silverlight plugin?

Not that I know of.

Never mind, I didn't click deep enough to see the galleries. Honestly I rarely view the galleries. I'm more interested in the "behind the scenes" (HTML coding, meta tags etc)
So yes, I have to download a plug-in. I DON"T download special programs just to view a website (especially Microsoft stuff)...sorry.
To the OP...you really need to re-think your website. ;)

What exactly should I rethink?

Having your viewers to download a plug-in just to view your site. I'm sure most will just download it, but some, like me, won't and will leave your site....forever.

What would I use to show my photos?

Me personally, I designed my own gallery/website.
You can look into SmugMug, Coppermine, ZenFolio etc. :D

My issue is I dont want people to navigate away from my page when they are looking at my portfolio. I want it to be internal and I dont want to pay some one to host it for me. Silverlight gallery came with my expressions media suite when I bought it and for its appearance, it seems worth the loss of a few who arent willing to make the download. Maybe Im wrong for feeling that way but until I have the know how to make something better on my own, I dont see any other option

I see three people out of 4 have issues with downloading a plug-in. So far, statistically that's a lot of viewers who would leave.
I assume you've already paid for your domain and somebody to host it? If so, I'm sure you can find some free gallery software and upload it to your server/website. :D

Just my domain name. My mom is a web designer so even though I designed my own, its hosted under her plan which is where part of my problem is coming in with meta tags. I have other free web galleries I can use that arent silver light based. I just dont like them. If I could find one that I like that is as plug and play easy as the silver light gallery I have, then I would switch
