If i want to fully cover my 11-16 tokina 2.8.
Which filter size do I need from singh ray ?
Z size is almost 100 $ more expensive. I'd like to get the P size and save money but I don't know if it will be too small.
I have a lee filter holder + 77 mm adapter on order. Should I worry about vingetting ?
Thoughts?

Go for the 4x6. It'll give you more room for adjustment plus more room to hand hold the filter if the need arises.
Not sure about the Lee holder. How many filters will it hold? Can you remove the slots that you're not using?

I'm making an assumption you're shooting a crop frame (not that familiar with the Tokina).
You indicate you have a 77mm adapter on order. Did you get the wide angle adaptor or the normal one? I would think you would need the wide angle adapter for a uwa in that range.
Sorry, not familiar with Singh Ray filters, but I would think 4" wide would be plenty.. I know the 4" wide Lee works fine at 17mm with a wide-angle adapter ring.

Will hold three, and you can remove slots.

Sorry, I forgot to add; I use the tokina on both 5D mark II and 50D.
There's a wide angle adapter? I'm shopping on the www.thecamerastore.com and I can only find a 77 adapter ring. Is that the same thing or...? It's all a bit confusing! Sorry

Thanks John, you gotta link to this holder? Having a hard time finding it on B&H.

You will need the wide angle adapter ring...if its not too late, cancel the normal ring and order the WA ring. The Lee foundation holder will take any 4-inch or 100mm wide filter, so you have several choices to choose from:
Hitech........4x5
Lee............4x6
Singh-Ray.....4x6

John, got more questions for you: Karl sorry to jack but this may help you too since 17mm FF roughly equals 11mm on a 1.6 crop.
-On your 5D @ 17mm, what CPL are you using?
-Is it a "slim" or regular?
-If regular, are you mounting the Lee holder w/ wide angle adapter ring on the CPL's front threads?
-And finally, are you seeing any vignette @ 17mm w/ CPL and Lee holder attached?
Thanks a bunch!

Tim,
If I'm using CPL only, I'm using a B&W Kaeseman Slim (no front threads). That MAY not be necessary according to some. However, I figured why not since I do not stack screw-in filters.
If I'm using a GND and CPL, I have the Lee adapter for a 105mm screw-in filter that attaches to the front of the Lee holder. In that I have a 105mm B&W Kaeseman CPL.
** no vignetting, but it's important to get the wide-angle adapter ring for the Lee holder.

I really appreciate you writing that out because I had no clue that the 105mm adapter and filter was a possibility. I too have some "slim" filters that I really don't want to get rid of.
That's one high quality (not cheap) filter setup you got going but your smugmug is impressive so I think it was worth it.
I also think you may have just spent some of my hard earned money for me!

Thanks!
I'll tell you what is worse than the hard earned money I spent on a relatively complete Lee system... the money I spent on filters before the Lee system. :) I have a wallet full of filters I never touch anymore (screw-in). It takes a little longer to set up a shot with the rectangular system, especially if you want to use a CPL as well, but the amount of control you get on the outcome is more than worth it in my opinion. :)

Argyle, do you troll the boards for filter threads all day? I've never found one yet that you didn't already post in and usually answer all the questions for. :)

No, not really. Then again, now you can accuse me again of trolling the filter threads since I'm answering a post in a filter thread. :D Investing in filters can be an expensive proposition...I just like to do what I can to hopefully prevent someone from spending a lot of money on the wrong thing, only to spend more to get the right thing. I'll re-visit a thread that I posted in just to see out of curiosity how it ended up for the originator.

What's the difference between slim and regular? What are the the advantage and disadvantages of the two?
