When I was a kid, barns all over the south were used to advertise this tourist attraction atop Lookout Mountain, near Chattanooga, TN. Usually the roof was adorned with the words "See Rock City". What a flashback to see a barn today (in NC) still advertising for Rock City, although not on the roof. I had thought all these were a thing of the past.

I can hear "Rock You Like A Hurricane" playing in the background

"Rock City, huh? That's a little bit of Americana that I didn't know anything about. Thanks for the nice photo, and the history lesson!

Last time I drove across TN there were several of those old barns still there by I81 and old highway 11. Hasn't been all that long ago. They really are a treasure. Great photo BTW.

There's still some "see rock city" stuff around here. Also, "See Ruby Falls" is quite popular.
Nice shot, Stan.

Heh, I've seen Rock City many times! :) It's nice to still see these barns occasionally, but unfortunately it's not nearly as common as it once was.
P.S. I saw seven states, but they all just looked like trees and roads to me. :p

Once again you bring a piece of Americana to the stage. Love it, Stan.

Nice shot, I know those barns having grown up and vacationed in the NC/TN area. Where is this particular barn? Doesn't happen to be on 19 heading into Bryson City, does it? Looks a lot like it. Brings back memories of home. :)

Actually, Mike, it was just outside Bryson City. Thanks for comments everyone.

HA! I thought that was it. How cool is that. I lived in Bryson City and nearby Whittier for my teen years until I graduated and joined the Navy. Western NC is certainly a beautiful place.

Great shots, I love old barns, sadly almost all of the barn advertising here in New England is for the most part so faded you can't make it out, or it's been painted over.

I too remember seeing those barns as a kid. I grew up in memphis, and any time we would take a trip(in the back of a green Rambler station wagon) we would see those barns. Later, I moved to West Virginia and alot of the barns had" Mail Pouch" chewing tobaco painted on them. Nice shot, it brings back memories.

Nice photo. When I was a kid we drove from wisconsin to Florida. I think we must have saw over 100 "See Rock City" ads on the way. Cool pic. I had forgotten all about it.
