Hmm, why is she squeezing her face so badly?

I would start by asking them to pose for you or a least smile or do something. The disinterested look in the left lady's face does nothing good while being complimented by the lady on the right making a funny face. Looks like you just whipped out your camera and took the pic. When shooting people a generally good rule is to keep there eyes on or close to the top third of the frame. You have a lot of head room which takes the focus off you subject. Also by doing that you could raise your exposure a bit and not worry about blowing out the background and catching a bit more detail in your blacks.

I would crop close to them, maybe even isolate them by making the backgound b&w or blurry. Also (like stutterbug said) if they posed for you it would look better. Or at least if both of them were candid, that would work too.

i might crop a bit tighter, too. but, i dont think that helps much just looking at the photo and playing with paper to provide "fake edges." and, yup, the expressions dont help much.
however, you could still have a lot of fun with this pic. i would enter this in the "caption this" competition in that forum. when you get the chance, i can just see all the "i gotta pee" comments coming in...lol.

I think it's a wonderful photo. I like the spontaneity of the pic, and the natural reactions of the greeters. It looks to me, too, that he whipped out his camera and took the pic, although I don't think that's a negative. I like these kinds of photographs- some call it street photography. To each his own, I guess.
