How much shooting are we doing or is this just a social get-together? Wifey is wondering if she can come too although if there's going to be a lot of walking I'll suggest she stay at home. I get enough complaints about stretch marks and "your baby keeps sticking it's foot into my bladder" without adding aching legs and sore feet to the list.
Oh, and happy to carpool Damian. Should I come dressed as a musketeer too? :p

Im cool with your wife coming mate, i guess its her choice, might be a bit of walking so depends how she feels. My wife has same problem before having the baby, very sore ankles and also had swelling etc.
I will be solo as my wife will be home with the bub.
What i want from get together, thingy: I would like to meet you guys as i haven't met many people from POTNAC before, but at same time i would like to shoot a bit, and more importantly maybe pickup a few tips from you fellow photogs. I pretty much fly solo most the time, so be good to see how other shoot.

Same ;)
I was thinking maybe from 4:30 until sometime after sunset would work, what time does the sunset over there (5:15ish here) maybe starting in kirribilly area then going down towards circular quay over bridge (or are there big fences, I can't remember) if not bridge then start around the rocks or in CBD and head around circular quay? All I can think of is the touristy areas since I've only ever been a toruist ;) (except when I was 4:lol:)
I think I'm staying in kirribilly but I shouldn't have any worries getting down to the CBD or anything...

Justin, good points, and must agree. Only met a couple of POTNers.
Mark, sunset is set for 4:58pm on July 5th, I'd suggest meeting at around 4ish to get the best out of it all. If kirribilli is the go, best place would be Luna Park really. It's close to Milson's Pt station if anyone is going for public transport.
From there you can walk across the bridge and down to the the Quay / rocks area. It'd probably take an hour or so (depending on how slow we walk as a group ).

Well, if you can provide me some sort of parking, I can head down to Kirribilli :). Otherwise I don't mind parking down at the city. I think it was 5 or 10AUD all day for weekends. :)
We could also grab some food/coffee/refreshment what not at the Rocks perhaps?

You could probably find some free parking pretty close to Luna park if you look. ;)

So meet up infront of Luna Park at four (it's a amusement park right?) Shoot sunset from there (?) then head down to quay/rocks after sunset and stick around that area/CBD until we get heading? Would be a plan...

I don't think I can provide parking in Kirribilli... Do you reckon you would be able to park at a park&ride (Do they have them there?) or something, how is the parking at Luna Park?
We could def grab food/coffee/refreshment at the Rocks or anywhere along the way whether we go from Kirribilli or not...
It sounds like sunset time is the way to go, so are there any other places that are nice around sunset time and for night shots in Sydney? (not neccessarily in CBD proximity if you can get there by public transport...)

Sounds good, so meet at Luna park and get some sunset bridge/harbour shot there, then walk across the bridge and maybe make our way over to rocks area or wherever the night takes us.
That should provide ample shooting opps, and ive been wanting to get sunset shots of the bridge for quite a while now.
If we do agree on this then i will get a train over to Milsons point from the City, that way i dont have to make my way to Kirabilli before heading home. Milsons Point station is right near Luna park (5 mins walk)

Yup.... My mum has just told me that we are staying in the completely blown out white roofed building here
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=sydney&sll=-25.335448,135.745076&sspn=70.268226,92.460938&ie=UTF8&ll=-33.851346,151.216504&spn=0.002078,0.002822&t=h&z=19&iwloc=A
She reckons the sun sets right under the bridge from the balcony...
I think it is 2nd or 3rd floor up...
(We have stayed there before when I wasn't into photography)
Is that actually a good place in terms of lining up sunset and bridge?
It def. has a good view of the bridge, I remember that...

I think Luna Park being a bit more public is probably a better idea. You can get along the foreshore almost as far as that place, so you'll still be able to catch the bridge. Need a pretty wide lens though.
It also depends on just where the sun is setting.

I also like the sunset timeslot just because we catch a sunset, night photos, and food in a nice walk... :)
Stefan, what is your cut off time? You could probably catch up with me and/or some other people a bit early as well...
Ed, I don't know if parking will be available at my place or not yet...

Is 4 pretty much when you would have to leave Luna Park area?
If so I would be fine from 3-4 around that area... and maybe hang out at the start point of the main walk/meet from 3:45 so early comers (if there are any) can join in aswell... If that's good for you...

Me and Damian are coming up from Wollongong... will take us probably an hour and a half to get up there depending on traffic. We'll probably be a little earlier than the meet time but we'll just occupy ourselves while there's still a little daylight.

Hi guys, back from the snow. Good to see everything is still running according to plan.
Andrew: I'll also have my 10-22 and a tripod. I'm bringing my M42 adapter for Damo too. As for a meeting point, either next the bridge pylon or in front of the scary Luna Park face. It's all within a matter of metres.

Phil,
you don't have to bring the M42 adaptor on my behalf...;);):D

Anyone here know of any monitor calibration service in sydney that won't send me broke? :D
My youngest daughter had her Confirmation and 1st Holy Comunnion 2 weeks ago and I've already PP's them in RAW via LR. I normally do not print my pictures but my wife wants to, to put in an album and to give to friends and family. I found out, although pics looked great on my monitor, it's not calibrated and I was told that I need to up 2/3 stop exposure in LR as it was too dark.
I searched for tools but they are so expensive! I've got kids to feed so a calibration tool is way down the list and recently I got new pc so that chewed up my personal savings. I'm not a pro just a hobbiest, so next best bet is to find someone who does monior calibration for a small fee. I found one place in Brisbane for about $40 but that's in Brisbane..
Any help would be much appreciated.

I downloaded some freebie software to do it... can't remember the name of it though. It does a good job as long as your eyes are good at differentiating different tones.

Wrong thread...
I've never heard of such a service, i did basic one like Dan, then checked it by uploading some images to forums and ask if colour is ok. On top of that i have a calibration image from the printing company i use (digitalworks) and now i have it pretty good, so what an image looks like on my monitor will be same as the printed image.

Calibration is an on going job, if you have it done once it doesnt mean it fixed forever.
Try
http://************/pp_i1
if you are concerned. However a lot of semi pros don't bother. Just search for a calibration tool where you have to determine black to white across the range of samples supplied.

Im away on the weekend of the 1st, 2nd. Any other weekend is fine. Biggest problem has always been getting everyone free at the same time. We would probably need at least 4 people to make it worthwhile, as starting the oven takes a couple of hours.
