Which off camera flash cord do I need for my 420 ex, so I can use it on the flash bracket and get everything out of the flash that its supposed to do? I see the "oc-e3" but is that the only one that will work or is there something you guys recommend, not interested yet into going wireless.

Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2 would also work, though it's a discontinued product. The OC-E3 is an updated version that's weatherproof and built tougher.

There are some decent aftermarket cords out there, and also some real crappy ones, so be careful. Promaster makes a good cord. Also, Flashzebra has them here (http://flashzebra.com/ttlcords/ettlcords/index.shtml).

If going corded I would also recomend checking out FlashZebra for the price you get a small canon one or a much longer one form Flashzebra. I have got sevral cables from Lon and the shipping / order processing was quick and painless.

I had the opportunity to check out and try a FlashZebra 24 foot ETTL cable and I was very impressed by the build quality and the product on the whole. The cable was heavy duty, the metal foot was solid, it locked securely in the camera's hot shoe, and it worked as it should.

If you want a cable backup or plan on working 'corded' I wouldn't hesitate to the buy the cable from Lon at FlashZebra.
