Hey all,

My wife and I just booked a trip to Hawaii (Oahu) today; we leave on Saturday. Can anybody give me a quick "hit-list" for exercising my 20D while there?

TIA,

Phil

Definitely the Pearl Harbor Memorial. My wife and I honeymooned on the Hawaiian islands 2 years ago. We spent the most time on Maui, but visited the Big Island, Kauai, and Oahu. While on Oahu we only saw the memorial and Waikiki. We dined with friends that live on the north side of the island where a lot of the surfing takes place. You might want to try that out.

All of the islands we visited were picturesque. I came back with hundreds of images from above land and below water.

Climb Diamond Head.... the view is 360 degrees and if the weather is good, the scenery is spectacular. Last time I climbed it I was treated to a pod of whales quite close to the shore and some fabulous breechings:) On the north shore you can take a realtively easy hike up to Waiemia Falls. Waiemia Bay is a hot surfing spot as well and you can take some awesome surfing shots. Don't forget the Polynesian Cultural center.... lots of colorful polynesian outfits representing all the different tribes and islands...... HAVE FUN!!
I'll be heading to the Big Island of Hawaii in 6 weeks myself.

Get over to the Big Island and shoot the hot lava flowing into the sea.

I recommend going up the Pali highway, there was (and should still be) a scenic lookout near the top of the back side that should give you some great pictures. If the surf is up at either Waimea or Makaha (depends on time of year), you should be able to get some good scenic wave pictures.
Although it was put in after I left, I have been told H-3 has some scenic spots along it.
[I am reminded of the line, "what does Hawaii need with an interstate highway?"]

But for the best pictures get out of town and visit either the Big Island or I highly recommend the scenery on Kauai (you almost can't take a bad picture here).

Just my memory and opinion,

Honestly, almost everything in Hawaii is worthy of a picture. If you drive to the Pali after a good rain you can find waterfalls all over the hills. The Blow Hole on the east side is good. Just stay away from the west side, there's really nothing worth visiting east of Pearl Harbor.
