Quick question...

I have a Powershot SD 880IS, and the past few days, I noticed that sometimes when the flash fires, I can see a very small puff of smoke rise from the front of the camera. On closer examination it also seems as though the window for the bulb is slightly dirty or foggy (this flash is a very thin strip so its hard to tell for sure).

Obviously I am pretty sure it should not do this. I found this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21293&highlight=flash+is+smoking) from a few years ago referring to this phenomenon but no other mention at all.

The flash is firing, and seems to expose properly but I am understandably worried as 2 other individuals commented on a burning smell coming from the camera.

I feel that my only recourse would be a canon RMA (this was purchased from Amazon this past December).

I am also curious as to whether or not anyone has any insight as to how this may happen? Ironically this camera was my go-to point and shoot until my fiancees Sony camera's LCD screen stopped working.

Any help insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd send it in for the warranty work. Smoke isn't good from electronics. You've possibly got a failing capacitor or maybe just a weak joint that's arcing. But get Canon to fix it before it completely fails.
