Ok, I'm back in Sweden after being in Minneapolis for my friend's wedding.

The wedding was a very (according to the Best Man) "as traditional of an American wedding you can get". We had the nice church, the three bridesmaids/groomsmen, obligatory cute small children, nice ceremony, tons of picture taking, decent food and so on.

I managed to breath, eat and dance in my bridesmaid dress and took quite a few pics. Going through them this week. I really wanted to get the 50mm 1.8 before the wedding, but didn't want to bother the bride with it so had to use my kit lens. This in turn meant upting the ISO to anything from 400-1600. The blur sucks, but I think I still got some decent shots.

At least now I know how American wedding photographers work a bit more (granted everyone works differently). There were TONS of formals being taken, and the main photographer had said he didn't mind people taking pics so I kept shooting over his shoulder and when he wasn't shooting. Later he told me he took a record breaking 23 rolls x 36 exp. and his assistant took another 400 exp.

Well, I had a blast at the wedding anyway and happy I got some nice pics. One of the attendants had a Hasselblad with her and I wanted to steal it badly. LOL Then when the photographer let me try his 20D I wanted to steal that one too (with the lenses too of course!)

The whole thing went very smooth, and I had a good time. I didn't catch the boquet, the DJ wasn't cute, but the photographer and his assistant were. LOL Turns out both the photographer and assistant were half Scandinavian too (what to expect in MN?), and I chatted...*cough* flirted *cough* with the photographer quite a few times. Even got me a dance with the photographer. ;)

Will be posting some of my shots hopefully sometime this week. Unfortunately I'm not in any of them... :( Should have asked someone to take a pic of me too.

Bloo Dog, it was one of the attendants who brought her's along. She didn't get the chance to take too many pics though, but she took a few. She hand held the camera. Not sure what lens she was using, but I know she had two film backs so she wouldn't need to change between b&w/colour film. She said she got the camera for herself as a graduation present. It was a classical Hasselblad.

Claire. That is a wonderfully funny wedding experience to share about us Americans and our love of toys, gear, and wedding pomp overkill. In your honor, here is an old scanned slide when I bicycled through Sweden in 1978. Simpler terrain. Simpler times.

Olymus OM-1 went 5,000 km through rain and bumps. Will our digital gear do this? The Oly glass is still good today, and I'm tempted to find an Oly-EOS adaptor.

Loved your story experience. J.

J Rabin,
My mom kept rolling her eyes whenever I told her about my friend's preparations for the wedding. Let's just say my mom isn't the romantic type... :p Today she was listening to a show on Swedish radio where people asked questions regarding weddings (attending/organising etc) and she sat laughing her head off. Then she came down shaking her head and laughing, saying people are nuts and she can't understand the point of having Toasmasters, why children shouldn't be allowed at weddings and how to ask for money instead of gifts. I've tried to explain certain things to her, but she just shakes her head and finds the whole wedding thing overdone.

If you're wondering - my parents had a Thai wedding and my dad was informed about it when he got to Thailand. He ended up having to get her a huge diamon 'cos "your jewellery shows your social class and you better give my daughter a damn fine ring!" He told me he spent 3 months salary on it. To mom's defense she has never been much for lavish weddings though, so I think theirs was mainly because society forced them to have it a certain way.

Hm, the day I want to get married I'll probably either end up having mom shake her head in disbelief when I plan stuff, or I'll end up eloping to Vegas...
