I really wish I lived in a larger city, or at least had one closer than 3 hours away. There isn't much to shoot here except birds, landscapes and clouds.

We had a cold front move in last night. Not sure why it's called a cold front, it was 90 and humid yesterday, today it's 85 and humid and rainy.

I like the framing of the third photograph (landscape extending across the bottom). Terrific contrast between the rich green and the virtually colorless sky.

Thanks Msurdin. These were taken this morning at a park about a half mile from here. the only place with enough open space to get a shot of the sky. Thunder was rumbling all around too and shortly after these were taken, it started to rain. Been on and off rain all day. :)

Beautiful!

I prefer the country landscape shots vs. city

Thanks Wolf and Avi. I have lived in most of the big US cities for at least a year, for one reason or another, mostly job related. From New York, Washington DC, Miami, Chicago, San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. While I love where I am now, a small town of 50K, it is limited in what there is to shoot for HDR. And I've already shot most of it. ;)

In Australia, that would be called a medium sized city :D

Absolutely stunning clouds, angry and forbidding. Also like the 3rd best because of the context the full horizon gives.

Well, Mitch.
I really envy you all those nice bird shot that you got. They are just amazing.
Where I live we only have to kinds of birds. Big sea gulls and small sea gulls. Or so it seems :)
We can switch places for a year :)

Beautiful, Mitch. I live in a city of 125,000 but since I am in a farming valley (The San Joaquin), it feels more country.

Just wish I had more access to your eagles but I don't miss your winters at all! :)

Eek! HDR? Or is that how they really looked? I would be scared either way!

Thanks Rob. I was shooting in a park as it was the only place open enough to see a lot of sku, without driving vaery far. I cropped out some of the playground stuff in some of them. :)

Thanks Helge. Well, we only get good Northern Lights about 5 times in a lifetime, so I would take you up on that. Do you think you could take the heat here? ;)

Thanks Maureen. I was able to go out on a friends boat a couple times in the last few weeks. While we get eagles here during a hard winter cause everything else in the Midwest is frozen over, we also have them all year around, but they are fish eagles and spread out when they can, so you need a boat to find them in warm weather. We saw several eagles while out those days. Needless to say, I am in the market for a small boat now. :)

Thansk AEBrown. These are HDR and it does enhance the clouds, but they also looked threatening in real time. That's why I went out to shoot them. Most of the time, it's just gray and overcast here. :)

You are talking to a man who loves the Philippines :) Average temperature is 32-36C
It is more important if you can handle the cold -12C and sometimes colder :)
And not to mention all the snow you will have to shuffle, 10-40 cm per night as worst case. And in bad winters have to clear the roof if the snow is getting to heavy.

Hmmm, well then, maybe I will go to the Phillipines and you can have my room here?

Canonloader,

I know what you mean. I have an hour to travel before I see the city ( St. Louis )

Most of the time it's nice, but after awhile, I would like to see something different. :)

You will get tired of the view wherever you live. I just look at myself when I see pictures that tourists have taken. And I think, why didn't I take that :)
But at least I got the Northern lights. They are different every minute. It's just the location that is the same.

I have travelled extensively all my life. Now I am old, retired and don't have the money or the inclination for it. For ten years, I drove trucks cross-country and have been on almost every road in the US from coast to coast, and loved every minute of it. Now I don't like to sit in a car for more than a half hour. Probably a good thing as the price of gas is too high to go anywhere anyway. That would all be OK, but have you seen the programming on TV lately?

Then you should try out other countries :) You just have to sell some of your gear to fund a trip
My wife and I are thinking of renting an RV to drive route 66 and follow the coast back. So in a few years we will do that.
And the gas prices...You don't know what high gas prices means :) We pay the same for 1 liter that you pay for 1 gallon. (1 gallon is 3.78 liter)
I could buy the most expensive photo gear once a year if we had those prices
