Hi there

I have a G2 that was happily shooting away until yesterday when it decided it couldnt flick through the shots on my CF card. Worrying Id wiped them I checked it on my Mac and no, theyre all still there. I tried other CF cards, same problem.

Then I found the zoom has a life of its own - one touch in either direction and it zooms all the way in and I cant get it back out unless I turn it off.

It then decided not to let any of the buttons work - it won't show me Menu, WB, flash etc, although all the rotating controls are working fine - I can take it into Manual, Shutter Priority etc and see in the LCD what the settings are - just not able to change any of them!

It WILL shoot - if I press the button, turn off and upload onto my Mac the new shots are all there, but I cant access anything on the G2.

Its not the battery, Ive done this flat and then later fully charged.

I take it it's died - but just thought Id see if anyone had a resuscitation theory, any way to reset it at all, just to save me buying another Canon (God help me). Ive done a search and found others ahave had various (unfixable) episodes with similarities but not the whole shebang...

So, if I cant resusc it, is it worth me chasing after another more recent G series or do they all have the horror stories Ive been reading about? Should I move back to Nikon?

Cheers for any info at all

Move back to Nikon?!

My G1 has had some of the problems you mentioned. I let the battery drain completely, then charged it back up. I took the CF card out and put a new one in. When the battery was done charging fully it worked. I'm not sure if it will work for your case, but you got nothing to lose.

Good luck with it

Nic,
It seems to me like the famous G2 "stuck controls" problem. Check this link"

Well, if Canon support is not friendly, you may choose also other vendor.
Greetings,

By removing both batteries did the trick for me when mine acted up once. Really haven't had a problem since.
