I visited our local skateboard park today for the first time since in was opened about 3 years ago. These kids are fearless. I have never tried to shoot anything like it at all. Its tougher than it looks

It is tougher than it looks. I would zoom out a little bit and show the spot that he's heelflipping ( i think ) on. Skate photography is different than regular sports photography, it requires more story-telling and creative composition.

yah i agree. for skateboarding, or other board sports photos for that matter, the shot needs to be wider. focus is less important on the skater themself, but more so on the terrain, obstacle, trick or location they are riding at.

agreed with Getonmylevel and i think it will be much better if you can see the face of the skater. Its my small share... just keep shooting buddy

Ahh, I wish my skatepark had a scenery like that, haha.

But anyway, always show where they are coming from and where they are going to land. Most times, back shots are a no-no in skating. Also, take the shot right when they are going to catch the trick in the air. In this shot you can see that he didn't land it since his back heel is almost touching the board.

I spent some time tonight looking at other posts to see the right way to shoot this type of shot. Next time I wander over I will try to incorporate the tips and what I have seen in other posts. Thanks for the comments
