In my wisdom I decided to buy, rather cheaply, Adobe CS3. I believe it is the extended version. I had previously been using Photoshop Elements 3 so this was a bit of a step up.
However such is the level of my ignorance I cannot even find the cropping tool ! If anybody could possibly point me in the direction of any tutorials then it would be very much appreciated.
I have looked on the Adobe website but they are now concentrating on CS4 not unnaturally.
Thank you.

its there. on the left.. fifth one down from the top if its in the long set up instead of the two row one.

skot kelby has a fantastic book.. its for cs3. its called photoshop cs3 for digital photographers.

it shows you about layers, masking, skin. WB.. excellent.. and its easy to read.. for a long time i would have it at my desk at all times when i wanted to know how to do something.

now i know enough to experiment on my own. and play around with it. but i still fall back on it from time to time.

and there are a ton of tutorials on youtube.com. and you can find photoshop tutorials anywhere in the net.

Cannonoob, Yes I did try the help feature on the software but it made little difference other than how to make a square ? I can crop manually but I have a pbase gallery that I try and get most of the pics a similar size. It will take me a month of Sundays to work out the equivalent settings for CS3.
At the risk of offending, none intended, I didn`t quite understand the last nine words of your post ?
