I do (outdoor)P portraits of other peoples' horses but have never gotten around to getting images of my five. Yesterday, we washed & clipped the two 'girls'. I hung up a black backdrop in the breezeway, set up one off camera flash, bounced off an umbrella, and worked on getting some portrait shots. I was playing with a 'one light source' concept with minimal fill. .. first time I've tried this lighting on horse portraits... What do ya think? Think it works ok?

I think they are both beautiful! I'm sorry I can't comment on the lighting, I'm still very much a newbie, but to me they look great! :)

Absolutely Gorgeous! I love the lighting! I think the second one of Playmate is my favourite. I keep meaning to do this with my boys, but I think I'm going to have to wait until August when show season is over and I find some time.

Thank you both.

Kat.. I think that's my favorite one too. It was over 100 degrees by the time we started shooting.. so couldn't take the time that I would have liked. (my helper - Ron - was hot and losing patience.. LOL.. ugh). Maybe when it's cooler, we'll try it again. .. I need a better shot of Missy. .. and one of the two mares together. .. and YES.. I want to see formal portraits of your guys using your studio lights. .. it's not like you've been crazy busy or anything.. right? LOL (I know you're exhausted & *krispy* from three/four days of shooting this past weekend..)
