I am shooting a 2007 Gallardo Nera this week but the owner is very skeptical about the location of the rig. He has agreed to do it on the car's front hood (which probably won't be used) and the front windshield (which probably will). My question is for you folks who have done rig shots on the rear plexiglass window that lets you view the engine. Is it stable enough not to cause any damage?

I've never done a rig shot on any cars that didn't belong to me or friends (and none own lamborghini's) so I cant help out were to put it on that car.

My only comment is unless you are 150% positive that it wont damage the car (or you have enough insurance coverage) I wouldn't use a top mount rig. I would be looking to mount the rig under the car. Good luck with the shoot.

I only have a top mount rig. I know the front windshield shot would work but the rear plexiglass is my concern as well as the owner's.

Why not go with the alternative of shooting from another car?
Find a good background & shoot it blurred. Then blend the two shots together.

I would be worried about the plexiglass also. Stick to what you know and just use the front glass and body (if your rig wont damage the paint).

too ghetto and the images aren't as sharp.

Front hood has a clear protective film on it.

I wouldn't worry about the suction cups losing grip, after all, as long as you have a smooth, even surface, they should hold.

HOWEVER! I would be worried about the Plexiglas being ripped apart/breaking from the weight of the rig and the leveraged force coming from the opposite side of the mount. I Would either stick (no pun intended) to the roof, trunk, or hood. If you are not comfortable or confident enough you can execute it without creating even the slightest damage, I would suggest passing on the rig and do what Photoguy suggested - either blend two images, or better yet, shoot shotgun from an adjacent rolling car. If done correctly, a natural real rolling shot with a slow enough shutter speed, will look better than a rigged one.

I did some rig shots on a Diablo, I set it all up and I think it bent the hood. Or it was bent before. But you don't want to be the one who bends it to be honest.

Ya that wouldnt be good. I would do what you know how to do, or do a rolling shot. I would sacrifice a little bit of quality to not dent a car worth more than my house haha

don't bother doing it

The cups shouldn't damage the paint. Just let the owner know before the shoot that wax will take the rings from the cups right out. If anything, bring wax to the shoot and do it for him/let him do it. Just mount it on the hood/windshield or only the hood. As far as dents/breaking the plexiglas, I would be very, very careful while setting the rig up and if anything doesn't look right, back off and resort to another type of shot.

Where about's is this plexiglass? Gallardo's dont have plexiglass on them, just real glass.

yeah I have been thinking about this as well. I'm gonna shoot my friends 08 Gallardo and was worried about where to mount. I was planning on just sticking with the windshield to be safe.
