I was just going for a sunday drive and came across these beautiful horses being "warmed up" for a competition of some sort. Just thought I would share a few of them, what do you think?

look like reining .. but matonanjin could be more decisive in an opinion since he's a reining/cutting judge. ... but judging from the stops, spins & tack, my guess would be reining. (unless cattle were inside where they were showing.. then it would most likely be a reined cowhorse event)

Glad you stopped and took some shots. Were the classes held in the building next to the warm up pen? Did you go inside and take any shots?

I like the shot of the bit best. .. I think your horse shots would look better cropped tighter. .. it would emphasize the dust & action better. (which is kind of cool.. don't you think?)

Thanks for the response. And it didn't seem to be a class, these were people from all over the States coming here in trailers and such with their horses. Maybe it's for the Calgary Stampede, and I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner!

And unfortunatly I didn't go inside! I didn't know if I should, and since I just drove up and walked up to where they were riding and got some odd looks, I didn't want to push it! (I was the only one there not wearing jeans and must of stuck out like a sore thumb with my bare legs) Maybe I should go back though and be brave and go inside lol.

Yeah the dust was pretty cool, too bad that's all the zoom I have!!!!

Which one would you crop? Pretty much all of them?

I agree a tighter crop would work best and the bit is the best.

That's a good possibility. You know it? It was "in" Okotoks.

That would be it then for sure. I recognized the building and grounds. I only live a mile and a half from it and if your fifth shot would have been a hair wider I would be able to see my mailbox :D There are plenty large horse events (mostly indoors) there pretty much every weekend. There is a lot of penning, working cow horse and sortings all the time. Pony club, 4H, trick riders, dog clubs and a whole lot of other horse clubs south of Calgary use it as their home base. Busy place.....

WOW! I never knew that was there. Very cool. I'll have to go back. Have you taken lots of pictures there?

You know what's funny? I remember the mailboxes on that road, almost took a picture of them. Too weird...
