Here is my first attempt for a portrait. Pls let me know how i can improve on it.
Exposure: 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture: f/4.5
Focal Length: 34 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Except for the color balance and the sign you'd have a nice picture IMO. But that can be corrected. If you would allow editing I'd show you what I mean.

The picture itself is good, but the colour balance is a bit weird, and it's not straight.

I used 3 hue/saturation adjutment layers, and cloned out the exit sign.

what is with the halo around her? the wb wasnt what bothered me... this shot doesnt do anything for her...

limit the vignetting if you did add any... and expose properly

thanks canonnoob. I did add some vignetting. The lights were really yellow in that area and adjusting to any kind of WB still produces the yellow hue. for this shot i had tungsten as Wb setting already.

I might suggest posing her in such a way and positioning your camera so that there is no question as to whether or not she has both of her arms.
This angle makes it appear as though she has a large head. have your subject shoulders face closer to 45 degrees to camera. Allow for broader shoulders as a strong foundation for the head to look properly supported.

I think you need to either take her handbag away from her or let it show more. Having her trying to hide it is distracting.
