I have searched these forums for an answer but I'm not finding it. I have an S3 IS and was given an EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens as a gift. I bought an adapter thinking it was the right one but no. That's what I get for thinking huh? The adapter is the LAH-C20 and is (obviously) not the one I need. So my question is which one do I need? Does it exist or is this not going to happen? Please don't tell me I need to buy a new camera. Trust me, if I had the cash I would aready own it. My brain still lives in the world of old school 35mm and not being able to focus my own lens drives me batty.
Thanks for any advice!

I'm sorry, but the EF 50 mm f/1.8 (also known as the "Nifty Fifty") is intended for the EOS SLR and DSLR cameras. The only way you'd be able to use it on your S3 is with a lens reverser ring, which screws onto the filter threads of the lens and onto the threads of your lens adapter. Used that way, it will give you very good macro capabilities, but you won't be able to use it for normal picture-taking. You can read more about using a reversed SLR lens with PowerShot cameras for macro work here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50124). The S3, like all the PowerShot models, does not have interchangeable lenses.

What were you hoping to do with the 50mm?

Continue to wish I had a spare grand or two to get a camera I want and other lenses too. I can't get rid of it, my dad bought it for me for my birthday. Someday I'll have a camera I can use it on. My husband can't live for too much longer (I'm not that easy to live with) and he has at least 3 life insurance policies. A woman's got to have her priorities....

You could get a film SLR for under $50 that could use that lens.

Yes and I am still looking at all my options. I loved my old 35mm camera but really only because I owned my own dark room. I don't have the dark room anymore so it holds less of a fascination for me.
Of course I have yet to even install Photoshop on my computer, it's been sitting in it's box on the table for months now. Time and money, if I had them in spades my decisions would be much easier.
