I just bought a used Canon A650IS. It should be shipped today. According to some online info I found, it takes the following for memory card:

SD/SDHC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus Card, HC MMC Plus Card.

Which type is the best, and what brand would you recommend for fast and high capacity memory?

TIA

I'd suggest getting SDHC cards; they're actually the ones you'll find it easiest to get. For most of the PowerShot cameras, including the A650, speed really isn't a big issue, so any reliable brand will do. I use SanDisk in my A630 and SX1 as well as in my DSLRs; I get faster cards because I am as likely to be using them in the 1D3 as in the PowerShot models and because the SX1, with its faster frame rate and RAW and HD video capability is more demanding than most of the other PowerShot models.

Thanks Jon,
I'll look for SanDisk. Any concerns about SD vs SDHC? This camera will most likely be taken on extended vacations when I want to travel very light. So capacity is important since I will also likely use the movie feature. Should I pick one very large capacity card or 2 smaller capacity ones?
Thanks for your help.

If you want to do videos, go with SDHC. The only significant difference between the two is that SD cards have a 2 GB max. capacity. Since the A650 will do up to 4 GB per video clip (around 30 min.), using SD will limit you especially if you shoot stills and videos at the same time. Given the physical size of SD cards (any capacity), I don't view carrying multiple cards as any sort of problem.

I use 2 Transcend 16 gig SDHC cards thats 2889 or so images on full Superfine 12.1MP mode... work fine.
