I would appreciate your help.
I'm trying to decide which of two forms of video actually appear better on Vimeo.
Included are two links and a poll for a 29 second silent video I did yesterday. The videos are both the same original video, one directly from the 5D2 and the other rendered in PSE.
I would appreciate your vote/and or comments as to which video you think is better.
After the poll has been going for a while, I will go more into detail on how the videos differ, providing there is interest in that.
Thanks in advance to all of you.

Video 2.

Please vote and choose one video that appears better to you.
Thanks.

video 2 has more contrast. But I only saw it when comparing the stills in different windows.

i think the contrast is there in 2 also... but i dont know if i was tainted by reading what the other roger said. :)
send me the raw mov file... ill raw upload it to my smugmug full account and do a basic h.264 encode so you can compare it on smugmug if you like... pm me if that will help in your comparisons.

Nick,
Thanks for the offer. I'll take you up on the smugmug thing but it will be later today before I can get it your way.
Thanks again.

yeah absolutely no problemo! Im keen to see the difference too - vimeo seems like a great site for hosting.... i wanted big res so went for smugmug... they auto encode each vid to several sizes so viewers can pick the size they want - which i thought would be good for family etc running older pc;s...
Think we might need to use one of those file sending programs.. this one is easy for files 100mb and under... http://www.yousendit.com/
or this one which is free upto 1024mb but requires free registration... ive never really used file senders before - just once or twice and it was under 100mb

Sucks that Smugmug only allows 500 megs.

Nick and others,
First off, thanks for responding.
Video 1, the windows media file, is 18 mb after being rendered. I didn't do any pp other than rendering.
The original clip, Video 2. is 145 mb. It's a MOV file direct from the 5D2 and unprocessed beyond that.
Also, Nick, I'm thinking the MOV file is an h.264 file although I'm not sure...??
The opinion poll and most folks I've talked to seem to think video 2, the larger file is sharper or has more contrast. That's what I see as well on my monitor.
However, in the long run, I would like to edit clips and my editing program, right now, is PSE 7.0.
PSE 7.0 works o.k. but really reduces the HD file size in the only format that Vimeo will take that PSE 7.0 has; that of windows media. PSE 7.0 also has MPEG 2.0 files but Vimeo won't take those.
Dave, I'm thinking of smugmug as a possible for uploading. However, 500 mb is too small for some of my files. The upside of smugmug is that it will take stills and it appears vimeo won't.
Thanks again, all for your time.
:)

Yeah but Vimeo is also free. With Smug mug, you need a pro account to upload HD video.. However, it will take 1080 but with a 500MB limit, the compression is a little too high.

Re: Vimeo
I went with the plus account. Around $65 a year but with a 5 gig weekly limit.
Smugmug isn't even close on that and is more expensive I believe.

yeah smugmug is 150 per year... has up to 10min per clip in fullHD seems the 500mb limit is gone?!?!
its a 1 stop shop for me - photos and video... unlimited storage, unlimited upload, unlimited traffic.
it integrates nicely for me with primarily photos and also with vid... i was paying 40 /yr for photos anyways - and by upping to 150yr i get protection for my photos - can sell them there too and unlimited full HD video - all in one place... with the ability to use my own domain if i so choose...
So far for the month of June on my smugmug site i have had 17,000 of my images/videos viewed and 230GB of data downloaded. Now if i could just get $1 per view hey :)

I like viewing vid on vimeo too... it streams pretty fast...
I think i like the smug format more - just feels a little less like a company site and more like my own... even though i just use a generic version - just feels a little more fancy - and i like that user can select size of video to watch - really good for people with crappy PC's
But at nearly $100 per year more - i can see the definant disadvantage and the vids look very similar between sites... i cant even view FULLHD on my monitor...
i seem to be able to justify any amount of money when it comes to photography... (500L is at top of my mind-- gotta get rid of the idea... its just 100mm longer than my 100-400 - i dont need it I DONT NEED IT!!!) (devil - its f4, can be 1.4x to 5.6 700mm - your 1d3 is begging) raaaah!!!
