I like #7. I am just not a big fan of shooting posed shots at weddings.. It is always a must have, but anyone can shoot posed shots (not aiming at you, just saying in general). I would have gotten down ow and shot full length on #3. Did you try shooting #2 at an angle at all? I like your clarity though, it's really solid across all photos. Good job!

yeah I have a bunch of #2 on an angle, I have yet to edit a bunch. I am not a fan of posed shots either, sigh...

This couple was really not into taking pictures and really only wanted posed shots (I have some candids during the ceremony. Also all the guests kept taking them away and doing their own photography shoots! UGH I have lots of pictures of people taking pictures of them! LOL just so I could show how bad it was. I think we were interrupted between each set of posed shots by the guests, I guess that's what you get when its in the backyard and everyone hangs around.

Believe me, I have shot my fair share of "backyard weddings" when I first started. I understand what a pain it is to deal with that... Good job and keep up the good work :)

Ha, ha! That's a good one!

It's actually the posing here that I want to critique! Your exposures are solid (except for #7), your color and processing is great!

But the posing here doesn't do anything for this couple. The bride is really pretty, with a great dress and good hair/MU. But she's not a size 2 (not that there's anything wrong with that - she really is a pretty woman).

However, ask any person if they'd like to look 10 pounds lighter in a photo and I'll take bets on what they'll say..especially on their wedding day!

So starting with #3, her shoulder is slightly turned from the camera, but turn it even more and it would have had even more of a slimming effect. Also, have her crouch down and shoot from above to stretch her chin forward and creating an even more flattering effect.

#5 is actually a really good pose for her. Her pose has the dress hugging her hips, with her legs crossed at the ankle creating a very feminine curve. The way her arm is draped across her body breaks up the solid front of her dress and gives a slimming effect. It's not a good pose for him, though. In this instance, you could have asked her to sit on his lap. That would have had the double effect of slimming him down (because she would be breaking up the black suit with her body) and putting her in a slimming pose with her side to the camera.

#6 is a really bad pose for both of them. Not only does it not slim her down, but it actually adds pounds. Wedding dresses have a lot of extra fabric in the back, so you need to be really skinny to pull off the full length looking over your shoulder pose. Additionally, with the angle you are shooting her, you are capturing all of her back and all of her side. Since her dress is a sea of white, it makes it look like her back is a lot bigger than it actually is! Ditto for him.

#8 is a great pose for him...her position in front of him is very slimming! Not so great for her because, again, it makes her midsection look thicker. Compare it to how it looks in #5. If he had been dipping her with his hands around her waist, instead of grabbing her leg, then his arm would have broken up the line of her midsection, making her look slimmer. Also, with a pose like that, it's better to ask them to close their eyes when they kiss!

Not trying to be nitpicky here - the color, exposure, and processing here all look very professional. Just trying to give you a few tools to use for your next wedding. Hope this helps!
