View Full Version : Wedding pics from Saturday

Ok, here are some of the pics I took this Saturday at my friend's wedding. I only had the kit lens, so there is noise in quite a few of the pics, but hopefully it won't be too visible.
The photographer didn't mind people taking pics while he was shooting, so many of the posed ones are taken over his shoulder/from the side/when he's not shooting.
For the whole gallery go to: www.nounaandersson.com/share/wedding/ (http://www.nounaandersson.com/share/wedding/)
Pardon the order of the images, Photoshop put them in that order and I was too lazy to change it.

Finally, a pic with me in it. Sorry about the colours, but the lights were VERY red and my friend wasn't used to the camera.

Very nice work, Claire ... I like them - especially #6 (bride with ring bearers). The "we're sisters now" shot is not a particularly flattering shot of the bride, though.

Claire, super shots, were they taken with your 50mm?

HJMinard,
I'm not a believer in ALL shots having to be "flattering" in the traditional sense. The groom's sister was a blast and kept making jokes and they were messing about the whole time. The main photographer took plenty of shots of them messing about. Anything from the bridesmaid taking a swing at the bride, to kissing each other on the cheek, to them pretending to feel each other up and god knows what. They had a fun time, and I think it was a good thing. The bride complained later it was tough to smile the whole time for the camera.
JusSmith ,
All the images were taken with the kit lens. I didn't get the chance to buy the 50mm until the day I left. I wanted it before the wedding, but didn't want to bother the bride to run to a camera store. So, all was with the kit lens.

Great shots!
I like the spontaneity of "We're sisters now!" I'm a firm believer of non-posed shots and capturing the moment, which you've done in many of your shots.

WOW Claire, excellent work!!! The exposure on no.1 is perfect, and love no.6. Did you use flash in any of them.

Thanks people! I didn't use flash for any pictures. Don't even own one. It was all shot in waaaay too high ISO. Anything from 400-1600. On the big images one can see the noise. Might try to use some noise reduction software to help out. Will be editing shots this weekend and next week have some printed to see what they look like in print. Then I will send some prints and a CD with the shots to the bride and her mom.

Hm, the bride's mom said she'll send me copies of the pics she took (where I was actually in the pics!). I know the bride will be getting the pro's images on a CD at some point too, so hopefully I can get some of those on a CD too. I think there's a shot taken by his assistant of me dancing with the pro...LOL If I get any shots of me from the wedding I'll post a few of them too. :)

Ha ha, sounds like fun. Let's have a look when you get them.
Btw, are you & the bride related...there is some resemblance there.

You're absolutely right ... often capturing a particularly special moment is far more important than worrying about the aesthetics of a facial expression. Note to self ... think before you speak ... er, type.

Not that I am going to add anything more to the list here that hasn't already been said, but yes, you did an awsome job of capturing the mood and emotions of the event - probably something someone detached would have a more difficult time doing. Thanks for sharing.

Great job! Especially considering what you had to work with (poor lighting, no flash). Just imaging what your shots will look like in the future when you get more equipment!

Aam1234, I had a really nice time. The day started with me getting up at 6am as the bride and I had makeup/hair appointments 8am. Even the makeup artist told me I looked knackered! *worrying how sleepy I'll look in all photos*
The pro was very nice about letting people take pictures when he was shooting his. I did try to not be in the way though. Stood further back and many times from the side (that's why people in the formals never look in my direction).
I actually sent off a quick email to him a couple of days ago when I got back. He wrote back and actually appologised "if he had snapped at me during photos", saying he hoped I had gotten all the shots I wanted, and that I should email him my best ones. Wrote back that he was the hired pro and I was the one to appologise if I had been in the way, even counted on him or his assistant telling me off if I was in the way. They never said anything, so I kept shooting.
Oh, and the bride and I aren't related in any way. We met 2001 during our MA degree in London. First week of classes, had our first conversation in the pub and since then we were joined by the hip.
Croasdail, thanks for your nice words. Looking forward to my next wedding. This was the first time I've taken pics during a wedding. :) There is a slight possibility I'll be a bridesmaid at another US wedding in a couple of years. Washington DC in that case. We'll see.
Ajbalazic, I don't dare getting more equipment for a while now! My mom already wondered why I got the 50mm when they just bought me a 75-300mm...haha But I now need a bag to keep it all in...

First, the good news:
Nice facial expressions. Everything has a VERY good feel to it. People looked relaxed. You could have used some fill flash. (Doesn't the Rebel have a pop-up flash that you can set to fill?).
You transcended the cliche and stuck to reportage. The images indicate a good feel for people. You work well under pressure.
You are five-foot eight and are of Asian descent.
You are about to embark upon a long journey and inherit considerable wealth.
Now the bad news:
You could be a wedding photographer.
Enroll in a nursing program at your local college and throw your camera into the harbor before you ruin your life.
First of all, you know I hardly know how to use a flash! :p
People were relaxed, nobody seemed stressed and everything went smoothly.
I don't know if I transcended any cliche. I just took pics of stuff. Nothing new there. Didn't feel any pressure as I wasn't the main photographer. It felt nice to choose not have to rush over to grab my camera for the cake shots. Couldn't be bothered to.
I'm 5"4. I wish I was 5"8.
Oooh, I missed the chance for wealth when I chose not to steal that Hasselblad and the pro's camera equipment.
I don't want to be a nurse! :p

Oracles never lie.
With the nurse's conk on your head, you're 5'8".
It's funny how these things always work out. Kind of like Fortune cookies.
hahahhahaha ROFLMAO !
