Of course, it only works with CS2.... I mean CS is SO old tech. Heck, I got mine back in February 2005! (PS. Adobe won't help me out.. I was told to buy the upgrade at full price like everyone else).

As a side note, the DNG converter bundled with it WILL work without CS2.

Seems to work to me.

So if you download the new DNG converter, convert your 350D CR2 files to DNG with it, can you open these DNG files with Camera Raw 2.4 in Photoshop CS?

Is anyone using DNG at all? I'm considering using it as an archival format, seems it's more likely to be around in 20 years than the 20D specific RAW format. I did a quick 1 image test of an underexposed image, EC+3 looks the same in both, so I don't think it's losing any information, though I didn't do a pixel by pixel comparison.

Got it and working flawlessy in CS2. No way to have it working on CS, alas. But that was supposed to be in this way. And finally it opens XT CR2 files :)

And whats the opinion of using 3.1 over RSE quality wise?
also is there a guide posted for using ARC anywhere that someone can recomend. im more interested in learning what the settings do rather than the workings of raw.
Thanks
Dave.

Adobe does it again.. one must buy a $500.00 program for support for a $600.00 camera.. becuase they won't tweek the plug in for the $500.00 prgram you bought last month... aaaaarghhh what a racket!!!!

How'd I get on this gerbil wheel!!!!!

but havent they supplied the DNG converter free so you can use it with PSCS?
you dont have to spend $500 or you could get PSE3 for not a lot.

I know what your saying though.

What the heck is DNG?

It means digital negative, and it's Adobe's attempt to come up with a universal RAW format that will work in all (future) digital cameras. It already looks like Noink is not likely to go along with it, so it may be dead on arrival.

If you download the ARC_3.1 zip file it has a DNG converter that runs as a stadalone app that will take the 350d raw files and convert them to .dng which i believe will then open in ARC 2.4 (but i havent tried it so could be wrong)
The new features in PSCS2 are great though. i couldnt resist it either (although i got my company to pay for it)

Dave.

It already looks like Noink ...

LOL. It makes me laugh everytime I see someone pretend they can't say the "N" word in a Canon forum :D

You see, you just have to take your time, take a deap breath and say:

NIKOO...NIKONG...oh my god...I can't say it either

;)

Niko Noink Nnnnnk sheesh!

Be thankful, the 20D was introduced in August 2004 and the ACR plug-in that supported it was released the last day of January 2005.

I don't think anyone has come right out and said this so I will. The ACR 3.1 plug in works in Elements 3.
I think, like many things, it has somewhat fewer bells and whistles in Elements than in full CS (now CS2), but it works for the Rebel XT raw files.
Can you use this to open those files and then go to CS for editing? I don't know, but Elements is going for about $75 these days, and that might solve some problems for those not wishing to go for CS2.
As for DNG, I'd love to hear some discussion on this subject . . . from those who know. Frankly I couldn't care less what Nikon does or does not do about this format except if they and Canon both lend support to it, it might create some order.
It is not a very workable situation now with all the proprietary RAW formats and one very popular, almost universal editing program trying to keep up with all the versions.

Wow,. that's just brutal.. so ther is definitely no reason other than marketing/financial that it won't work with PSCS1...

You gotta love it!

Anyways.. now you knwo there not looking to release Elements four in the next few months or so.... if they were they would have crippled the support for elements as well :)

You scared me there for moment, because I thought Adobe was not offering the usual sub-$200 upgrade version. I just checked and there is a CS2 upgrade and it's $150. Yeah, it still sucks but it's better than $600.

I just saw a post in another forum, and the answer is, "Yes!" :D

Can you batch convert with CS2 without using a 3rd part script or atn file?

I've not seen the necessity to use that converter with pscs1 yet. Somehow my 350d .cr2 files worked instantly with pscs1.

I only had the trouble after upgrading to pscs2 that I had to upgrade the Camera Raw plugin.
