1st post. Been a long time since the last time I seriously played with a camera. Bought my EOS650 around 1980. Still have it, not been used for the last 10 to 15 years. Looking forward to re-learning all the stuff from my 2 or 3 photography classes and learning as much as I can from this site.

Nice! Enjoy it. Expect this site to make you want L's and if you get into digital, a 5D2 and 1D3

Funnily enough, I saw and nearly bought an EOS 650 yesterday but they wouldn't split it from the lens and flash so I didn't!

Welcome to POTN! What do you like to shoot?

You'll find that digital exposure is considerably different from what you were used to with film. Here you're concerned with the highlights instead of the shadows. Usually, I shoot RAW & don't sweat the "small stuff".

For cars & things that have bright highlights, here's a good starting point for exposure. Pick the aperture or shutter speed you want & set it in "M". Then you only need to adjust the ISO to get the other setting, aperture or shutter speed, that you want.

Hey everybody, thanks for the welcome. I went the way of a point and shoot for the ease of transporting during vactions. A few years ago I bought a 300D to play around with as my 650 lenses would fit. The photo bug now has hit me again. I have forgotten all about the f stops and speed etc... and now must relearn all that. Thats how I found this forum.

Moose, I saw eos650's going for $19 on ebay. I thought about selling mine but decided to keep it after seeing how little they go for. For the amount, I would keep it for sentimental value.

It will all come back to you. I wish I had held onto some of my old manual focus stuff. I get nostalgic once in awhile and think about those days. :D

I'm a big pens and steelers fan (my old forum avatar used to be crosby and malkin). Pittsburgh has been blessed with good sports teams over the years. I'm still trying to recover from the stanley cup playoff run :p

I know what you mean. I remember when I switched over from film it took awhile to get adjusted. The hardest part was getting used to post processing everything.

Congrats on the pens!. I'm a kings fan and was rooting for Bylsma, Boucher etc.... My avatar on my hockey website is my then 4 yr old daughter holding the stanley cup.

Wow, that has to be a special picture. :D

Over where I'm at they hardly ever have western conference games on TV. I only get to see the Kings when they are playing the Pens. Its too bad because there are such good teams/great players in the western conference.

I'm happy for Bylsma. They've interviewed him a lot after the cup and he still sounds as happy as a schoolboy. He's been a real good coach.

Thats a good way to start. Here is a site that somebody posted for me awhile back that helped me ease into post processing.

http://www.ronbigelow.com/articles/articles.htm

The "why raw" and "raw workflow - basic" helped me to understand some basics. Its staggering the amount of info available now to help you get started.
