View Full Version : Avoiding "BAD" ISO noise . . .

I've noticed that high ISO noise is more prevalent when a pic is underexposed. When shooting RAW and at high ISO (800+), is it common practice to try to overexpose a little bit to avoid the bad noise?

I always expose for the highlights that i'm interested in, no matter what ISO i'm in. I'd rather have a noisy image that captures everything i'm interested in than a blown out one with less noise.

I'd still shoot a piece of white paper & chimp the exposure very close to the right. The RawShooter pgm will let me clean up the noise left in conversion.
