View Full Version : Canon 75-300mm IS 16Inches long?!

Talking about the Canon 75-300mm IS..... Um, I've heard this lens is 5.4 inches long at 75mm..... and 16 inches long at 300mm...... is that true??? Sounds a wee bit..... wow! Haha, please help me out here, and thanks to anyone who replys!

The non IS is 5 1/4 inches long at 75 and 8 inches zoomed. Not sure how different the IS verison is but if its 16 inches long it must be in three sections ?

B&H list it as "5-7/16", which isn't entirely clear.

The 75-300 IS measures about the same as the non-IS. I took the measurements with the lens on the camera +/- a little bit. At 300 it's definitely closer to 8" than 16".

I think the B&H measurement is for the unzoomed lens and reads 5 and 7/16ths of an inch which is bascially 5.4 inches (Thankfully I normally work in centimtres - I'd go out of my mind pretty quick if I had to work in 16ths :-) ).

Ya know, I think your right RockOne!!! 5 and 7/16ths sounds believable. That's what I was thinking at one point, but wasn't sure. Stupid things are misleading sometimes. Thanks for the help everyone! Man, I was like, 16 INCHES?!?!?! hahaha, didn't think it was possible, and obviously it's not.

I am holding mine....and if this thing is 16" then I am 12' Tall. Like everyone else has stated at the most it goes to about 8 or 9" when at 300mm.

In metric it's 200mm long when zoomed to 300mm and focused to infinity (add another 2cm for closest focus)
