S45 Vs. G3

I have always been a big fan of CANON!. They are great.

I am looking to buy a canon dc and i am really confused with the above 2.

I have found the following features in G3 which does not exist in Canon s45.
1. 4x Optical zoom (s45 - 3x)
2. Hot Shoe
3. Remote Control
4. Internal Battery Charger ( S45 u have to
take out the battery to charge it)

G3 costs about $160 USD more than the S45. Is it worth going for the G3. Is there any
other feature in G3 that s45 does not have.
Please help me join the Digital gang!!.

hey the G3 has the swivel view screen...great for self portraits or abstract view shots...

a friend of mine has the s40 and loves it but when i handled it it didn't have a pro-feel like my G1 does...

as for portability...the s45 takes it...
as for more function and studio usage...the G3 takes it...

depends on what you plan on using the cam for ...
i have a G1 but i am about to purchase a S230 for it's pocket size feature (though it is more of a point and shoot)...

since purchasing my G1 3.2MP...i've been extremely happy with it's picture taking capabilities...
i also love the fact that i can use my infrared flash system with my camera...
battery power is a plus too

If i decide to go for G3... u think i need one more small camera? I cannot afford Two!!

I was in the same position - swithering between the two and also narrowed down the list to what you have - i.e. G3 better optical zoom etc...
In the end, portability was what I wanted and opted for the S45. If you want to carry around something heavier and more brick like, go for the G3.
One other thing you can do with the G3 is by a lens convertor that allows you to fit other canon lenses - but you can get an underwater case for the S45!!!!

On the street the price difference is much greater than the $160 you mention. I can't find a G3 lower than $650 anywhere but can buy the S45 at www.dell.com for $427 today or even B&H Photo for $449. That makes the S45 that much sweeter!
