hehe, there's a guy around here that will do things like that. He's got a spiral bound notebook that has pages and pages of various messages like that he has written that he'll change around.

He doesn't look too happy though. I wonder what his take of the day was.

If survival was the first thing on that mans mind, he wouldn't be holding that sign silly! Hahaha, I love this photo, and I love how well made that sign is! I wonder if he wrote it himself.... it's very.. well written. Thanks for sharing!

I have seen this sign around on different bums. Did you have to pay him for the shot?

lol, yeah. people talk about how pitiful the bums are, that they're just "trying to survive".... the majority of them have plenty of money, they're just too lazy to work! if he was barely surviving, he'd be looking a lot worse off, and wouldn't be getting money to just spend on beer

My thoughts exactly! This guy has some pretty nice leather wear too, albeit a bit worn. If I had to guess just by looking at Him, I'd say He's a "Scammer". His hair is long, but seems to be well trimmed.
I wouldn't give this guy a dime! People like Him make it extremely hard for the ones that really need help. Someone followed one of these guys home in Vegas, and He was doing better than the average working stiff.
There was another one that limped around on crutches on the street corner by a bicycle shop that I did business with, and they told me that at the end of the day for this guy, he would toss his crutches over the wall, and then leap over it himself.
The ones that deserve help, IMHO, are the ones that try to help themselves by collecting cans, doing odd jobs, etc.
PS, Sorry for the rant. Nice photo. :D

hah yeah. I asked him if I could take his photo but I told him I had no money. He said he didn't want me taking his photo if I had no money. Then I went and got some change from my dad. I gave him the change and asked again if I could take it. He started apologizing and telling me to go ahead and he mumbled a bunch of other stuff I didn't get. Something about something being scattered on the ground. haha

its really disgusting how many bums thee are in SF. I live just north of the city and I hate going it to SF as its a FREAKING pan handlers convention day in and day out. Damn city does nothing to really help them, but facilitates their problems like giving them new needles...etc...BLah blah...

I personally dont give pan handlers a penny. If they want help, they can get it in many better ways. No wonder tourism is down in SF.

OK Dante if I come and visit I hope there will be no beggers in front
of your Diner??.......Just kidding...lol

I totally agree, it really hurts tourism. I'm not bad walking around them but my wife stays totally away!! Damn goverments spend money on every other country in the world but they don't look after there own first!! And it's usually the small business owner who feels it first!

You are so right mrclark321, hey, can I call you clarky? Anyway, Its pretty sick. Pretty damn disturbing. I think as a tax payer I deserve someone to round up all these people and put them somewhere so I dont see them and thus I dont feel bad by walking by them. We run the bums off pretty quick in San Anselmo LOL j/k Its the police we pay to do that, Its an upscale comminuty, bums and porches Carerra GTs just dont mix ;);)

Seriously, they can get pretty damn aggressive in the city. Been in and have seen many altercation with uber aggressive "bums" There is a huge difference between junkies and "alks" panning for their next fix and homeless people that are on the streets for other reasons.

IT is the small biz owner that gets shafted in this deal. Now its going to be kids in playgrounds too, as the city of SF just authorized a program to give the junkies all the free needles they can use. Guess where they shoot up? the streets and playgrounds!! Who the hell wants to visit a city that makes you feel bad about your status, taking a vacation and having people begging from you constantly. To a city that facilitates IV drug use? Like its good for the user and good for the people that get pricked on improperly disposed of needles. Sf used to be one of the best, cleanest friendliest cities around, sad to say its a filth hole coming up quickly now.

See dont drink too much coffee or ya can tend to rant like me!

Yeah, damn those bums, they should all be put in a camp right? Made to work right? Damn them for being responsible for the declining tourism...or could it be the closeminded and right winged attitudes of the average SFer? I thought SF was a city of tolerant people?

Anyway, nice thread hijack. The photo is good, maybe less of a crop and an upwards angle? Would look real good in BW with a grain put through it...

I think you miss the point of actually who is responsible my dear. However it is an ugly mess and I do know for a fac that it is responsible for a decline in tourism and I do make a good precentage of my income on that flow of people to the area.

I too actually like the pic. It moves me. Reminds me that in these times of higher states of consiousness, that as the human race we focus on petty issues rather than taking care of every person in the world and feeding every single mouth. I would not crop this pic a bit as I think th ebackground tells much of the story here.

I'll probably be looked down upon for saying this, but actually yes, they should be put somewhere and be made to work. Then maybe they'll learn that living an honest life where you work to make a living, rather than trying to scam people actually isn't so bad afterall. All they do is create a bad atmosphere wherever they hang out, and cause people to not want to be around the area, hurting businesses in the process.
I do feel bad for the people that truly are homeless and need the help. But these days, those people are few and far between, because there actually are shelters they can go to, etc.
