A friend brought back some sample Velvia 100 from Japan that I hope to test (not Velvia 100F). Does anyone know when it is going to start selling everywhere else (like the U.S.)? She said it was hard to find in Japan (at least the 120/220 size was in short supply).

From what I read at a local place call Samy's. June/July is the release date for the Velvia 100

How does Velvia 100 differ from Velvia 100F?

The Velvia 100F currently in the states is a completely different emulsion from the Velvia 50 we are so used to. 100F isn't as saturated, and the yellow isn't a reddish/orange tint I love so much from the Velvia 50.
The new Velvia 100, is said to be alot closer to the Velvia 50 in terms of color rendition. OF course this is only hear-say. So until I get my hands on several rolls of these, I wouldn't be able to comment if this is true or not.

You might also have read that Velvia 100 is going to replace Velvia 50 (discontinued production of Velvia 50). I've heard stories of people stocking up their freezers with Velvia 50 as a result, but it doesn't seem necessary because I've read an initial report that Velvia 100 matches (if not exceeds) the quality of Velvia 50....more data is needed to confirm that; however, I don't think Fujifilm would cut a popular product unless it was absolutely confident of its replacement.

Again this is just hear-say. From what I heard from a Fujifilm representative is that Velvia 50 is being phased out. But there is so much of that stuff currently on hand, it will take YEARS (10+) to deplead this stock. Again this is only hear-say. The 10+ year is factor by all available format available for Velvia 50.
