Then just go out and buy one! I did yesterday and here are the results of a quick test just to make sure everything was ok with it. All shots straight out of the camera, no processing, crops are at 100%...

Original (f/4, 1/400s, ISO 400, 75mm)

Looks like you got a good copy :) It's not a macro despite the marketing blurb on the box, don't worry too much if those shots aren't perfect, but they're pretty good :)

I have my one 5 weeks and I love it. It is a fantastic portrait lense - I took some photos of a friends 2yr old who obviously wouldn't stay still and they came out great - zoom very useful...

... (but I wish I had the 17-40L for group shots and wider landscapes??!).

Indeed a very nice lens.
When I shoot flowers at f2.8 I notice that I can add more USM than normal. The detail is there, and the usm can bring it out.

There is a guy coming to buy my Drive Shaft Shop axles on Monday. As soon as those are sold, I will be ordering mine.
