We have an SD880 IS and will be in England for a couple of weeks. The charger that comes with it comes with a US plug attatched (so there's no way of adapting it to the UK format).
If we bought a UK charger whilst there, would it be safe to charge a battery from the US?
And, if not and we bought a UK battery as well, would that work in the US Camera?
Thanks.

I can't see any problem with charging a US battery on a UK charger, but you should be able to get an adapter that lets you plug in your US charger.
My old 20D was a grey import and came with a US charger and plug, I got an adapter from the local electrical stotre for a couple of quid. Worked fine.
Check the rating on the charger, if it states something like 110-240 volts input then you are fine with a simple adapter (or I think you can use shaver sockets). If it is just for US voltage you will need an adapter that steps the voltage down as well.

Just get a US-UK adapter - look at the charger and you'll see it's good for 100-240V and 50-60 Hz. So anywhere in the world, with the right adapter.

I have the same camera. the charger works with 50/60 hz or 120/240 volt power. For what its worth, most chargers made in the last 5 or so years seem to be pretty much universal since the manufactures sell them around the world.
All I carry anymore is a plug converter kit. I got mine at Radio Shack for about $20 a bunch of years ago. It is just a set of adapters to go from pretty much any plug style to US. works well for my iPod too. You do not need a "power converter" for most chargers.
Oh lesson learned - the other half plugged her US hair drier into the socket in Europe a few years back. Poof! She didn't realize there was a switch to go to 220 volts.
