My S45 lists my Sandisk 128 MB card as having 122 MB, is this normal? (after all pictures deleted, card re-formatted)

The space it taken up by formattting info. My Lexar 32MB CF card states I have 30.2MB available. The larger the card the more space taken.

The space IS NOT taken up by formatting info!
Space are counted by this way:
1.048.576 bytes = 1MB (Megabyte)
122 x 1.048.576 bytes = 127.926272MB = around 128MB
30.2 x 1.048.576 bytes = 31.666995MB = around 32MB

On CF-Cards the space is not calculated the way it should be. A 128 cards only holds 128.000.000 bytes and that's in fact 122.07 Mb. A bit funny, isn't it.

I see what ur getting at, but there's yet another strange occurance that made me look deeper into this matter (and finally finding this board :)
My new S50 which came with a 128mb sandisk CF was put into the camera and showed under the menu info: 128Mb of free memory and 2 or 4 K occupied by some TOC or something (don't remember)
I then hit the format option and voilá, a couple of seconds later the card only showed 122Mb !
Now my question is: are factory new cards preformatted ? and if so shouldn't that also have showed 122Mb? or does every manufacturer have their own opinion on what a megabyte is?
