Radio controlled model of the F18. This was one beautiful airplane. Photo was taken at an annual gathering of enthusiasts in South Carolina, USA.

Cool plane! I could never get into ducted fan models, I'd be too scared of crashing to fly it

Yep' it flies. Not sure but I think he owns the company that makes these. He had many more kinds there also. I'll try to find one in the air and post it as a follow up.

Nice shot
If he owns the company, it probably has one or two of the new miniature turbine (jet) engines. Those things cost way more than I would want to chance with a crash.

Beautiful plane, but huge. Is it a good idea for such large planes to be flown RC? Seems too many things can go wrong, and this sucker could cause major damage.

I read of one RC buff that built a scale C-5 with a wingspan around 23 ft. I think the article said it took two people to fly it, using two radios. This was a while ago though, before the new 10 channel jobs. I wouldn't want to be around when it flew though. I've experienced too much radio interferance flying and crashing my small ones to chance gettint hit by something the size of a small private airplane

Jackal,
Great photo's of the giants! Do you know what power they use, ducted fan or turbine? I'll have to stick with my .46 & .60 size gas or my electrics. Just don't have the budget or the talent to fly the expensive stuff.
Thanks to all for the comments and sharing. Couldn't find a photo of the jet in the air, sorry.

That "is" sad. Can you imagine? I've seen a lot of crashes but that was the worst.

Tnanks but I didn't take those pictures (not sure if you were thinking that).
I'm not sure what type of engines they used. All I know is that the engines on that B52 cost them around $2,000 each or more....If I'm not mistaken.
Here's one I wouldn't mind having. ME262!

That's one awesome plane. (Though I'd take a 109-G6 A/S over it)
Other massive ones:

What a bummer. huge scale models can get quite pricy. I fly 1/4 scale wwii warbirds that run 4-7k all ready to fly. Have crashed a few, but thats the nature of the hobby. Just looking at that b52 crash ans wondering what when wrong. Looks like pilot error. Seems that this plane was a handful for takeoff and would dread landing that sucker. Still what a shame. Any info on what caused the crash. Man those turbines make a smoking hole just like the full sized ones. There is a saying in the hobby, "frequent flyers make frequent buyers"
