Hello Folks;

I'm an amature photographer looking of a reliable flash trigger , I found PocketWizard is bit pricey.
Any alternatives ?
My camera is canon 30D and 580EX flash.

Thanks

To fire your single 580 you will need 1x CST (Transmitter) and 1x CSRB (Receiver).

You will also need a hotshoe adapter to connect the CSRB to the flash. Lon @ FlashZebra is a great person to deal with.

Either one of these will work, but I prefer the 2nd as it uses the actual canon shoe and looks like it is built a litte better.

thats why you should always list your location in your info under your name. saves everyone a lot of trouble.

I have some of the CTR-301P ebay triggers and they seem to be pretty reliable for the price. I have shot probably 1200 - 15 00 frames with them and have only had a couple of mis-fires.

Cactus triggers are cheaper, but can give you a headache. If you modify the antenna you can have outstanding results...ask me how I know ;)

X2, the only misfires I had were when I was pretty far out of their range.

I first bought the ctr-301p, but just recently got cybersyncs. For some reason I was getting too many misfires with them at a further distance. I tried changing the battery, but that didn't help.
Now I have cybersyncs and extremely happy with them.

Does Qatar have any regulations on frequencies? I remember hearing that Cybersyncs are illegal in the U.K. and some other places overseas because they use the 2.4GHz band.

I myself have cybersyncs and am very happy with them.

Doesn't the 580EX have a PC port? My EXII does--the cybersyncs come with a cable to connect the CSRB to the PC port so you shouldn't need a hotshoe adapter.

The 580EX does not have a pc sync port. Canon introduced the sync port on the 580EX II.

Good to know, I've never seen the EXI. Thanks for the info.

Here in Singapore, PocketWizards are illegal. And skyports are illegal in the U.K.?

Since I'm going by my really faulty memory on that, I could easily have remembered that wrong or just read wrong information. Since I can't find anything that confirms that I wouldn't believe me.

I've used Speedotron 23495 transmitter and 23493 receivers often w/o misfires; quite reliable and quality built. Got cord adapter and sync cord from www.ParamountCords.com.

Skyports are available in the UK. You can get the universal receivers and it's also built into the BX500ri monoblocks among other models. It's a great system, but extra receivers are quite pricey (not pw pricey but still about 80 quid a pop).

For location stuff, I'm using the Chinese "Blazzeo" hotshoe receivers and triggers from fleabay currently. Have got four receivers and two transmitters and they've been super reliable to date. Not only that, but £17 for two receivers and a transmitter - nicely. I've not tested any max range with them or anything, but I've never had a situation where it's been a problem.

I'm an amature photographer looking of a reliable flash trigger@Nasser - You didn't say how or where you will be using the flash triggers. I've had good luck with the Skyports indoors and outdoors.

Indoors at a high school basketball game.

Outdoors used to trigger a remote camera (from about 200 feet away).

They have been very reliable for me.
Hope this helps.
