So I've had my 350d for about a week now and while the kit lens is okay, I plan on stepping up a few notches. First I'm getting the good old 50 mm 1.8 prime since for the price it can be beat, but I also want something to extend my range. I have some no name 70-210 zoom lens in my bag, I only use it on the 200 end so I figure a prime lens is a good way to go and you can't go wrong with an L lens. I just haven't heard anything about this lens in particular. Is there anything I should know about it before I invest money into it? I do mostly shoot outdoors with plenty of light, but I think I'm inside enough to justify having a 2.8 lens.

No one, huh? Well, lets try this. Can anyone tell me if the 1.4 teleconverters would work with this lens? A little extra reach never hurt anyone.

Yes the TCs do. Either of the Canon's will work and will maintain AF.

I think the lack of feedback is just because not too many people own the lens.

The 70-200mm L Lens, is a great lens. Can't go wrong with it. Steep price, but you get back quality for your dollars. And yes, you want the 2.8 even if you shoot outdoors mostly. Better to spend a little more to have that versatility. As a photo journalist, this is one of the 3 most important lens in their bag.

I think he is refering to the 200mm L prime. This lens, I hear is SICK in sat, color rendition and sharpness.

The 200 f/2.8 L is excellent, really one of the best lenses I ever had.
Crisp, super colour rendition, fast AF... and this outstanding f/2.8 aperture.
And not too heavy, fits well in hands even with the grip on the 20d.
I like it a lot, really! ;)

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear, thank you. Now I will feel justified in the purchase when I save up a little cash.

I have this lens also (well the Mark I version which is identical optically). Its a very sharp lens with great colour and bokeh (depth of field blurring). have a look in this gallery for some with and without the 1.4TC:

or this one where they are all with the 200:

Its a good lens... you will not be disappointed...!
