CANON SX10IS How to

I'm a newbie in photography and been trying to "duplicate" some posted photos to practice using the manual mode... Anyway, please give some instructions on how to do the following if they are possible with Canon SX10is.

1. Perspective compression, that is, making the background closer to the subject in the foreground.

2. Star trail

3. Light trail

I can only comment on #2 but from what I know, the maximum time for shutter opening is 15 seconds. For star trails you need a much longer time right?
