I kept reading that if you have a "big" camera eventually someone will ask you to take photos at their wedding ... well ... never say "this will not happen to me..." (they were of a certain age and just wanted some pics ... not really intereseted in posing or whatever) .
For free and for my first time I hope I did OK

Only the 450D, kit lens and 430ex

Please comment.

I think the first one your focus is on the chain and not the pearl itself. Also I would have had the two earrings together as a pair.

I lvoe the mom and daughter with the same "thinking face' too cute.

The ring shot is beautiful. The last portrait of the bride and hubby he looks like he is about to walk away.

Your exposures are great, are you using a diffuser of some kind on your flash?

1 - perhaps white balance it and bump up the exposure a little.
2 - in the future, keep in mind distracting backgrounds w/ shots like this
6- great lighting!
7 - awesome shot with the dark reds from the flower

Hi there,
when I spotted your set I knew something doesn't work for me there but somehow didn't think of it that much at the very first moment. Then I took second look and got it - yes your kit lens is responsible for that.
I think you have lots of potential so please keep on practicing. I would definitely recommend faster lens than kit lens is. If you cannot afford any L lens go without any doubt for Canon 50 f/1.8 (nifty-fifty). That lens will nicely blur background and your subjects will suddenly pop-up which will definitely help.
BTW. the picture of rings on the red flower is amazing!

seconded.. that last picture would be made much better by going for a wider aperture-but with the kit lens you were at the limit, I'm sure.

I notice the white balance off in many, but the ring shot in the rose is really nice all around.

To me, they look like what you described, unposed snap-shots of a wedding. The cropping adds to this because it cuts parts off where normally there would be planning for negative space. That's just as important as what is actually in the shot. When you are able to work with couples really into the photography, you will get to enjoy it more.

Ohhh... I was so nervous to post here as I know that what I see here is out of my league ... ( but I'll "grow up" someday...)

The white balamce probably can be corrected as I shooted RAW, only that on my laptop's screen it looked ok, if and when I'll win the lottery :) i will buy a proper PC and screen to process the shots...

It's on my list to buy the Tamron 17-50 2.8 as I know that my lens can't do I want it to do ... grrrr... couldn't I have picked a cheper hobby?

I have the Canon 50mm 1.8 but I just ued it a few times and indoor it doesn't focus half of the time

At least, am I on the right track? I am always not satisfied with my shots (probably because they are too many great photographers on potn :) )
Equipment I will buy when I will have some money for this, processing I will learn .... but what am i going to do if I don't have the EYE?

As for the B&G they were going to have their photos taken by people at the wedding with a P&S, so I hope I did better than that for them and it was a huge experience for me ... long and stresfull day, i admire people who do it as a job as it's very stresfull... it is ok to look at some pics and to say : nice one , OOF one ... but when everyone is moving you just forget about focusing on the eyes, don't put the subject in the middle and so on ....

grrr... i wrote a lot... told you I was nervous...

It is an expensive hobby until you start making money with it. Once you start, it's not a hobby but a career, and you need to have the right gear for the job. If you can't afford it, may I suggest you rent next time? it'd help get you started if you felt your gear was not up to the task.

You are on the right track, shoot more, post more and people will help.

Don't worry about the EYE thing, nobody was born with it in this profession. It takes time to realize your own artistic style, with some less, with most shooter, a lot more.
