I purchased a reportedly new A40 but it has obviously been opened and used.
I did not notice what the file numbers (image number) were on the camera when received.
I did take maybe 5 or 10 shots, and then installed the software on my PC. I did have install problems and had to reinstall to make it recognize the camera.
The file (image) number on the camera then showed 101-0012.
The manual says it should start at 100-0001, and change to 101-0001 after taking 100 pictures. However, some people report images as high as 100-8132, so what does this mean?
My questions are:
1. Why does it show 101- and not 100- ?
2. I did install the software and had problems so had to reinstall. Could this have changed the number on the camera to jump to 101- ?
3. Please explain the numbering system and how many pictures have been taken when my (new?) camera showed 101-0012.

Thanks for any help.

On my A40,which I had no problem installing, the numbering started out as 100-0001. When it got to 100 it showed 100-0100 but going to 101 the number was 101-0101. Since then it has consistantly put the "hundreds" as the last two digits of the first part. I am currently up to 113-1350.

I didn't think the numbering had anything to do with the software as that is allocated when the picture is taken and is used to uniquely identify the images on the card.

I do know that there is a setting to re-set the numbers when a new card is inserted.

I hope this is of some help.
