Name the Creature

This shotwas made mid-June, beside a river in Eastern Ontario. We have our suspicions but I would love to have your input as to the identity of the creature photographed here.

It looks similar to a locust that we have in Texas, but not exactly. So, maybe his Canadian Cousin.

Thanks for all the feedback. The consensus in this forum, apart from its beauty, is that it is a dragonfly and this corresponds to what I have been told from other sources as well.
With that in mind - think how beautiful it will become.

I wish there was hope for me... oh well!
