Perhaps premature as my 5D2 gets picked up this Sunday and I have not had one in my hands for any length of time. On 25 July there is one of the largest fireworks displays in Japan on the Sumida River in Tokyo. Nationally televised.
5D2 not really acquired for the video, but I have the perverse thought of fighting the millions who will gather to watch this and having the camera on a sturdy tripod using the 24-105L which produced great still fireworks photos last year on the 5D Classic. I was pretty good at capturing good photos with this lens on the 5D Classic using remote shutter release, Bulb setting and manual focus, depressing the shutter at launch sound, and releasing after burst. Lots of experimentation, but overall great results at ISO100.
I am wondering what might be appropriate settings for the 5D2 using video on a tripod for fireworks. It does not look like I cannot get much experimentation done in time to learn from mistakes. Any and all suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
John

it's going to be fantastic in low light. it's amazing what the camera can generate about the colors, black is pure black.

you can get an idea by shooting your monitor in a pitch-black room.

Set the camera up in front of a TV and film the TV. You will definitely get great shots :D

I shot one last night, just opened it up at 1/30th and bumped the ISO to 6400. Came out ok :)
