A sixteen percent increase? I'm sure glad I bought mine a little more than a month ago.

these flashes are "ettl-II" vice the old one that is "ettl" so if you have a rebel or 20D you are in luck.
it's the only way I can explain it.

Hate to tell you this but there's no difference between the "old" one and the "new" except maybe some cosmetic differences. ETTL and ETTL-II is implemented within the camera, not the flash, so both the old and the new flashes will work on the 20D in ETTL-II mode.

So, uh... is this an updated version or now?
I almost pulled the trigger on it 3 weeks ago... Lucky me

well that's good to know. I always figured since I own a 10D, if I got a 580EX that the ETTL-II woek with my camera that it would just be a high powered 550ex or like a 20D with a 550ex.
makes perfect sence now. although, i never shoot in ttl just manual.

if its like the second Sigma i bought over a month ago, the only difference is that it is built much better. My first Sigma flash was pretty flimsy which in general was one of the only complaints of these flashes. I bought a second one over a month ago before I finally purchased an Alien Bees setup and sold the flash off to someone on the FM forums. Its really built to take more of a beating and the door for the batteries isnt as cheap feeling. That, and a couple other cosmetic changes. Other than that, its no different than the previous Sigma 500 DG EO Super, both support ETTL-II.

But then all you need is a vivitar for manual.
Reminescence: cool. Better build for 40 bucks...

The first generation of this flash would not work with the 10D (don't know about the 20D) and that's why the Super. I also noticed the price jump. I looked at it on B&H's site one day and did some more research, went back the next day and it had jumped fro $199.95 to $239.95. I think I'm going to go with the Canon 550. IMO Sigma blew it with the price hike.

Don't you mean "that's why the DG"? The Super just distinguishes it from the plain-vanilla, all-auto DG model. :)

it's still 20% less then then 550ex and only 10% less power.

That might be true. I got my information from 2 reviews and one of them quoted a Sigma representative. But, it's like all information on the web, to be taken with a "grain of salt."
Anyway, I was going to order it from B&H until they jumped the price, but now I think I'll spend the extra 20% and get the Canon.
Sorry for any incorrect information.
