Hello my fellow canon buddies, i took these 3 pictures today and was wondering what you guys think of them. I edited them with lightroom and unfortunately these pictures were taken with jpeg not RAW file. I really need someone's opinion other than myself inorder to improve in the future. Please be honest and nothing negative will be taken to the heart. Thank you guys!

Great use of DOF in shot number 1! I also like the tree in number 3, too. That crack in the pavement may be worth avoiding !

^Chicago...

DOF on #1 is too thin for me... the eyes are soft...
neither 2 or 3 do anything for me...

some things to keep in mind might be composition, focus point.

I agree #1's eyes are not as sharp as would be expected, point of focus appears to be behind the eyes. Nicely composed image.

#2 is probably the most photographed piece of artwork in Chicago which makes it tough to present a new or interesting view. A couple issues with this image, first the vignetting either by lens or by post doesn't work. Second the exposure of the sky in the bean doesn't match the sky seen in the image, thirdly the slanting verticals could be accepted to work with the distortion seen in the bean except that the buildings have been cutoff. And finally the horizon line through the image is not horizonital, look to the low fence in the background it should sweep evenly across the image however the right side is a couple degrees lower the left.

#3, the trees trunk may make a interesting subject but not from this point of view. The house, the bland sky along with the sense that most of the tree is to the viewers left is unseen leaves one wondering what the photog was trying to say, show or define with the image. Finally the image is again not horizontal, when well defined verticals or horizontals are in an image like the garage door, the eye expects then to be in that orientation.

Don't let this litany of issues with the shots lead you to believe I think these shots aren't worth the pixels required to capture them, it is the details that take an nice image to a great one, learning to see and correct the finer details lets the big ones fall into place al on their own.
