This shot had a totally washed out background because of a very bright, overcast sky. I applied the Colored Pencil filter in PS CS, then did Edit and Fade Colored Pencil, with Mode set to Pin Light. That made the sky look like night, and highlighted the horses head.
I hope it posts as well as it looked on my monitor.

A nice image of a very beautiful animal, John. Unfortunately, the effect looks a little too obviously artificial on my monitor.

Jay,
Thanks for your honest input. I noticed the same thing after viewing it on my work monitor this morning. I think I'll go home tonight and beat my LCD severely with an old Mamiya medium format lens, that is currently being used as a paper weight. I knew I would find a use for that thing eventually . . .

Vesselin,
Sure, here is the original shot. I did a few adjustments, auto levels, auto contrast, and some USM.

Thanks...
I tried, but I don't have enough time to play around to make it perfect... but how's this? I think that's better than the grey?

I like the original, John ... with the out of focus fence trailing away. And Vesselin's sky modifications look pretty good, too. It's an outstanding shot of the horse ... good material to work with.

You mean to say you could make it look even better?
