View Full Version : Tricked into wedding

This is so funny. I was booked to take a couple of pictures at a party, The prices the client offered was purely symbolical - It hardly covered the use of the car and gazoline to go there. I was also requested to bring the studio gear - lights, backdrops etc etc.
I did not bother to confirm what kind of event it was as I was sure it was some nonprofit event, Lately they contact me from time to time as I charge very little if anything to them.
To my big surprise it was a wedding ! And I ended up with hundreds of pictures photographing almost every guest quite a few times.
Good trick isn't it :-)
I do not mind as I was bored anyway, and the photos came out not so bad. The only grief I have is that I was pushing around the tuxedo clad guests in my shorts bought on occasion of the new millenium, slippers and a $2 t-shirt.

Glad to see you have a good sense of humor about the whole thing. I could imagine other photogs being very upset because they were duped.

I would turn around and walk right out again. No question.
Some might say "shame on me for doing so" I say shame on them for trying to con you

OMG! I thought for sure I was the only person on the planet that would get tricked into doing a wedding!!
I had someone call and want "Family Portraits" they set up the appointment and low and behold... Bride / Groom, and both sides of the family from aunts uncles the works all arrived for their "family portraits"!
I have learned to ask questions.

Man I will be furious if I ever get tricked into a wedding. I'm too scared, and my gear won't compensate as of now.

Wow, I'm curious to know the outcome of this. I'd be pretty upset. Did the client ever explain themselves to you? I know everyone says prices go up as soon as you say the word wedding, but still.

In my case, it was just plain ignorance. Father of the groom said he would take care of the photography. The couple said they didn't want anything but the "Family Formals"
I did take some of teh bride and groom of course, hoping to up sell them ;) and they did purchase a lot. Not "wedding" a lot. but at least it wasn't a total flop.
Regarding the "wedding in front' bit silly but I am sure you have seen "Man Stroke Woman's" Wedding skits? hehe

Well you did show up and shoot family portaits, right? They just happened to be all dressed up for the wedding. You didn't have to shoot the ceremony? You didn't have to shoot the reception/cake/first dance/garter?
If they called you up and said "We want you to JUST take the formals at our wedding, we only need you for an hour..." would you have charged them more?
Just wondering....
No flames intended, I'm an aspiring semi-pro/weekend warrior.
As for Papa Carlo's situation, he presumably charged them way less because he thought it was "for a good cause". I'd be royally pissed in that situation.
