I'm new to this forum so this is my first time sharing. I thought I'd start off with some bridals I took back in April. :D

Excellent images.. but for me.. on the second shot..the selective color kills it.

These are all beautiful. As far as the selective coloring on 2, I think that even if you wanted to keep the SC then I would just desat a bit..and it would stand out as bad but still have color.. otherwise I think its a great B&W conversion.:)

Thanks Brenna. I don't understand the sudden aversion to SC. Oh well, personal taste I guess. Thanks for your input :0)

I don't think it's a 'sudden' aversion to it.. I as well don't think it fits too well in that particular image. SC can be great if used well and in small doses.

Great series by the way. Very beautiful bride.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I guess due to my emotional attachment to the photograph it's hard me to see it as too much. But I value everybody's opinion. And thanks...it sure didn't hurt that she photographed so well!! Very little post-production on her.

yeah its all personal opinion. A lot of clients love selective color.. Most of the people on this forum hate it. I dont know why. I personally think it depends on the photo. I also enjoy doing a low saturation photo with a selective color at higher sat. Thats me. I think the photo is so pretty it doesnt matter:)

How did you do that particular conversion??

Welcome to the boards...very beautiful bride. I think SC can work well with certain photos. The SC in this photo doesnt bother me. The picture is still great. Cannot wait to see more of your work, great set.

Thanks!! I just converted the photo to b&w and using a layer mask I "painted" out the portion I wanted in color. :0)

Welcome aboard!

my same thoughts. i think it takes away from her.. and i know the flowers are a big deal.. but no where as big of deal as the bride.

i think these are really awesome photos, and are just stunning. you got lucky with such a pretty bride.

welcome!

Nice shots but, what's the connection with "Kids and Family"?

Thanks!! It was all natural lighting. She was facing a large open doorway.

Great Photos! My 2cents on #2 I think the problem with the SC is the pose, her arm kind of disappears behind the flowers so it has a pasted on feel. Personally the flowers are so powerful I had to work backwards from them to figure out the connection. She slightly has her back to the camera therefore her arm is slightly behind her. Due to the B&W its hard to see her arm at first glance and them make the connection that shes holding the flowers.

Great job and I would love to see more of your work!

Is she not your wife? if so, then she fits here... if not, it's a people or a weddings shot... but who cares where exactly you post. She's someone's wife and your shots are very nice. I don't feel the selective colouring adds to the second shot, but I don't hate that shot either. Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum

LOL. No she's actually not my wife....I believe that type of marriage isn't legal in Texas. But she is a very close friend of mine. It was just an accidental mispost being it was my very first one. Thank you for the compliment. I can understand everyone's take on the SC and your opinions are appreciated.

#1 looks great.

#2 I like the selective coloring in number 2. However, the angle of her arm holding the flowers out is a little strange and thats what hurts the picture. When I first looked at it I had to really think about how she was holding the flowers. I think if the pose was a little different if would work well.

I think the foreshortening in the second one is too strong.

#1 very nice - i could see a little more room up top - just a little.
#2 Selective color to strong - desaturated - imho.
#3 cool shot - but lights are not horizontal - could use adjustment.
i look at bride face, down the brides dress, flowers, then the lights.
noticed the image is slightly tilted and then started looking at rest of room.

very cool set up - bride room - exposure ....... just the slight tilt.
(i'm not a tilt hater) ;)

Quick version is... the distortion the foreground and background create when seen at a certain angle. In that image's case - the closeness of the bouquet overlapping her shoulder shortens her arm and creates an illusion that it's either really short or not there.

If you've ever taken an art or photography class, it's some of the basics! :) It's always a good idea to look into body distortion, angles, positioning, ect when getting into a profession such as this!
