View Full Version : SD700IS vs. SD1200IS picture comparison

A few years ago I purchased my wife an SD700IS and it has proven to be an excellent camera. Takes great pictures in auto and is a robust camera. It has a big dent in the front panel and still keeps on ticking.

We are pretty much 'auto' picture taking people. We don't play with the settings, just leave the cameras in the auto mode.

I received an SD1200IS for fathers day as I was always borrowing my wife's. The 1200 is not as robust of camera as the 700 but it is lighter than the 700. It's too bad they had to put a function button right were I put my thumb when holding the camera, but those are the breaks.

I had hoped the 1200 would take comparably good pictures as the 700 does, but the 1200 pictures seem off color wise. For example, the greens are too vivid in the below pictures. It seems the 700 provides a more accurate color rendition than the 1200. These two pictures were not taken at the same time of day but the differences between them are representative of what we are seeing between the 700 and the 1200.

I was wondering if anybody can offer suggestions on how the color can be brought more inline on the 1200? Is there some feature I can turn off or on, or a global setting I can change that will stay changed?

Thanks
Wayne

On the 1200 go into My
Colors setting to see if the camera is in the vivid mode. If it is, turn it off. That may solve the problem.

Put the 1200 in P mode and set the exposure compensation to -1/3
also check the color setting like was stated above. Ran my 780is like this yesterday hiking around Fall Creek Falls and pictures turned out MUCH better than the previous day while in full auto mode. The 780is in auto mode over exposes almost every photo.
